This is one of the most fascinating books on the JFK assassination I’ve ever read (and I’ve read a lot). The author is so meticulous it’s hard to imagine he didn’t go insane during his research. But at the end, one is left with the sure sense he has proven what he set out to prove.One thing that has always made me wonder, however, is the question of whether Oswald was ever even in Mexico City. This author assumes he was, and that the CIA simply manipulated communications and photo evidence of Oswald in relation to the Soviet and Cuban embassies there. But the CIA has never provided incontrovertible proof that Oswald ever actually made it to Mexico City, and the witnesses who claimed to have personally interacted with “Oswald” may have been interacting with an impostor. This seems to have been the view of writers like Mark Lane, and I am far from certain they aren’t right.Nevertheless this is a fine work. Essential reading in the JFK canon. The author says somewhere in the book that this is an account of Oswald' s file. Which is to say his CIA file. The file was extensive. What was not known until recently is that it was never kept as a single file under a single heading in a single location. Certain information about Oswald was deemed too sensitive for the prying eyes of the other branches of government to see so it was kept in secret files under headings which were not readily apparent as part of Oswald' s file. Any government agency that request the CIA' s information on Oswald was handed the 201 file which did not tell the whole story of the CIA and its complicated involvement with Oswald. There are a lot of coded file names talked about in this book and I had a difficult time keeping them straight. No firm conclusions are arrived at except that the CIA was rather devious in the way it kept information about Oswald from the public and worse from government efforts to get to the bottom of the Kennedy assassination. The author did a lot of research and shares his findings so someone still interested in the Kennedy assassination can learn some new things by reading this book.
